Dear Susie,
I tuned in to your program on the radio this afternoon, April 15th, just as a question was read from a woman asking about her concerns with her unrepentant husband. I believe your guest was Dr. Gary Chapman. The answers to her question were fair, but in my estimation, not complete. She was told to model repentance herself, to download messages for her husband to listen to, and to shine the mirror of truth to her husband whenever possible. What wasn’t addressed is her need to set a boundary and an expectation for Godly conflict resolution in her home. For example, she could say, I need for us to work on healthy conflict resolution with a professional counselor. Would you like to help me find a good counselor? If he refuses to participate, she could go to a counselor herself to learn things that could help her. I too lived with an unrepentant husband for years, and any time I would try and approach the subject, it always ended in a fight, with me coming out the loser. Eventually, after many years of praying, trying to change myself, trying to love my husband more, etc...I found out that he was having an affair with a co-worker and friend. We are now getting the needed counseling, and my husband is truly showing signs of Godly repentance. I wish I had drawn the line in the sand years ago however, and insisted that he invest as much in the marriage as I was. Christian women need to be empowered to stop being door-mats and we need to be given the tools to help us get stronger when dealing with difficult people. Thanks for hearing me.
Sincerely,

A wiser wife
