August 6 - 11, 2012
Monday, August 6 – John Ortberg – Who Is This Man? – He is history's most familiar figure. His impact on the world is immense and non-accidental. From the Dark Ages to Post-Modernity he is the man who won't go away. He did not brashly defend his movement in the spirit of a rising political or military leader. He did not lay out a case that history would judge superior in all future books. He made history by starting in a humble place, in a spirit of love and acceptance, and allowing each person space to respond. Today Susie welcomes well-known pastor and author John Ortberg to the show to talk about his book, Who Is This Man? We explore how Jesus' influence has swept over history, art, science, government, medicine, and education and how his vision for us to lead lives of dignity, compassion, forgiveness, and hope continues to haunt and challenge humanity today.
Tuesday, August 7 – Nick Hall (Recorded) – Life in Christ – Listen in today as Susie talks with young evangelist Nick Hall, founder of the Pulse movement. We’ll explore what full surrender looks like – you won’t want to miss this refreshing and challenging program!
Wednesday, August 8 – Michael Card (Recorded) – The Gospel of Mark – Today on Live the Promise Susie welcomes musician and theologian Michael Card! They talk about his new book project on the gospel of Mark, as well as his ministry through music and his faith journey.
Thursday, August 9 – Dee Brestin (Recorded) – The Sustaining Power of God – When we turn our lives over to God, He develops gifts and brings us to places we don’t expect. Today on Live the Promise, Susie is joined by fellow author and speaker Dee Brestin. Dee will share her faith journey and talk about the challenges of losing a spouse, as well as her thriving prison ministry.
Friday, August 10 – Mark Buchanan (Recorded) – Your Church Is Too Safe – If you ever find church boring or you believe something is missing from our churches today, you aren’t alone. Instead of counting everything loss to be found in Christ, we’ve made it our priority to be safe instead of dangerous, nice instead of holy. Today Susie welcomes back author and pastor Mark Buchanan to recover a simple idea: that God meant His church to be both good news and bad news, an aroma and a stench — a disruptive force to whoever or whatever opposes the Kingdom of God and a healing, liberating power to those who seek it. Mark’s book is Your Church is Too Safe.
Saturday, August 11 – Angie Smith – What Women Fear – Today Susie welcomes back Angie Smith, Women of Faith speaker, writer, and wife of Selah’s Todd Smith. They talk about the common fears women wrestle with – abandonment, failure, not being “enough” – and how finding freedom in Christ results in freedom from fear. Angie’s book is What Women Fear.
